Major General (Retired) M.R.W. De Soyza is to assume duty as the new chairman of Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal Limited (CPSTL) today.
He will replace former Chairman Nalaka Perera. Mr.De Soyza served as the Chairman of the Land Development Corporation prior to this appointment and was a former Chairman of the CPSTL.
The First Report of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) report released yesterday included observations on the Special Audit Report on Storage and Distribution of Petroleum in Sri Lanka.
The Committee pointed out that there is a need for a scientific study of this country’s fuel requirements and the time taken to import fuel into this country is needed.
The Committee further pointed out that the tendency to commit fraud and corruption is high when the institution lacks such a plan.
COPE also requested for a report on how the ownership of the supply of petroleum is divided among CPC, CPSTL and LIOC as well as the current market share possessed by those institutions.
