A Police Sergeant attached to the Dehiattakandiya Police has been killed in a wild elephant attack this morning (17).
Police Media Unit said the victim had been found on the Aralaganwila Road in Dehiattakandiya in the early hours of this morning with serious injuries sustained from a wild elephant attack.
He was found by those on a bus that was traveling on the road, and the occupants had rushed him to the Dehiattakandiya Hospital. However, he later died from his injuries.
The 53-year-old victim was a resident of Weeralanda, Aralaganwila. Initial investigations have revealed that he had been on his way to the police station on his motorbike to report for duty when the incident occurred. Dehiattakandiya Police are investigating.
