Police continue search for former IGP
The police said that the search for former Inspector General, Deshabandu Tennakoon who has been evading arrest still continues.
The Matara Magistrate courts last week ordered to arrest the former IGP and seven others wanted in connection with a shooting incident on December 31, 2023.
Meanwhile the Acting Officer In charge (OIC) of the Weligama Police surrendered to the Matara Magistrate's Court today.
The shooting incident had occurred in front of a hotel in Pelena, Matara claiming the life of a Colombo Crimes Division Police sergeant.
The former IGP’s order to send a team from the CCD was reported to be illegal.
A local police team who were not aware of the operation had open fire at the CCD team.
