Three officers from the Police Lifesaving Unit rescued a 17-year-old Swiss tourist who had been dragged out to sea while swimming in the seas off Elephant Rock in Pottuvil last afternoon.
Police Media Unit said the three officers attached to the Lifesaving Unit of the Pottuvil Police rescued the victim after she got caught in a strong current while swimming.
Meanwhile, a 45-year-old resident of Katana drowned yesterday while bathing Sindrathriya Moya-Kate in Wennappuwa.
The victim had been swimming with a group of friends when the incident occurred. The body has been recovered and sent to the the mortuary of the Marawila Hospital.
