Rolling power cuts that have been extended to 10 hours in most parts of the country came into effect this morning (30).
Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Chairman Janaka Ratnayake stated last night that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had requested to increase the power cut duration to 10 hours due to the non-availability of fuel 750MW of thermal capacity.
Meanwhile, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) last night requested the public not to queue up at filling stations for diesel on March 30 and 31 as a ship carrying 37,500 MT of diesel has been unable to unload as planned. However, CPC will supply diesel continuously for essential services.
