The Presidential election will be held on September 21, the Commission of Elections has decided.
Accordingly, nominations for the election will be accepted on August 15.

Nominations for the elections will be accepted at the Election Commission office, Sarana Mawatha Rajagiriya. A candidate from a registered political party will have to make a deposit of Rs 50,000 and other candidates Rs 75,000 each.
The Election Commission notified that nominations for the president's elections must be submitted at the Auditorium of the Election Secretariat of the Election Commission located in Sarana Mawatha, Rajagiriya, on August 15, 2024, between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.
Objections to nominations can be submitted on August 15, 2024, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Any opponent candidate or any individual who has signed the nomination papers of a opponent candidate may raise objections to the nomination papers of a candidate, the Election Commission said.
Deposits will be sent to the Chief Financial Officer of the Election Commission on business days beginning today, 26, and ending at noon on the day before the nomination deadline, which is August 14, 2024. Deposits are accepted from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Election Commission's Election Secretariat, they added.
