Police fired tear gas to ward off a group of students of the University of Peradeniya (UOP) protesting along the Kandy-Peradeniya Road this evening.
The protest has been staged by the Students’ Union of the UOP challenging the private higher education institutes offering medical degrees, the Online Safety Bill, the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), the Anti-Terrorism Bill and the delay in Mahapola Scholarship payments.
The dissenters further expressed concerns over a raise in Mahapola student scholarship allowances.
