The Government is considering holding the provincial council elections under the old system to overcome the impasse caused by disagreements over the delimitation process.
A senior government source said that as the new delimitation process is complex and long-drawn, a proposal is under consideration to revert to the Provincial Councils Elections Act of 1988 for the next election.

“We are considering holding it for one last time under the old system, which will give time for the delimitation process to be completed, after which the elections can be held under the PC Act of 2017,” the source said.
