Heavy rainfall above 75mm in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts could be expected today afternoon or night, the Meteorology Department said.
Showers may occur in Northern, Eastern, Uva and North-central provinces and in Southern coastal areas during the morning.
In the meantime, showers are expected in sea areas off the coast from Kalutara to Pottuvil, via Galle and Matara. Thunderstorms are expected in other coastal areas around the island.
The Met Dept further said, winds will be north-easterly plus, would strike at 20-30 KMPH and may also shoot up to 40 KMPH intermittently over the sea areas off the coast widening from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Puttalam and Kankesanthurai and from Hambantota to Galle via Matara.
Sea areas off the coast broadening from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Puttalam and Kankesanthurai and from Hambantota to Galla via Matara will be fairly rough every so often whilst the rest will remain moderate, the Department said.
