Showers and thunderstorms will occur around the country and rainfall could reach up to 100 mm in some parts of the country, the Department of Meteorology stated issuing a weather advisory.
Accordingly, showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places in Western Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and Galle and Matara district within the next 24 hours.
However, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea areas extending from Kankesanturai to Pottuvil to Trincomalee in the evening or night.
Winds will be South-westerly in the sea areas and wind speed can be increased up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo.
The sea areas extending from Galle to Batticaloa via Hambantota and Pottuvil and from Puttalam to Kankesanthurai via Mannar will be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be fairly rough.
The Department of Meteorology advises that people should be alert on the advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology. People living in Northern and North-Central provinces are requested to be vigilant.
