The Defence Secretary Major General (Retired) Kamal Gunaratne has appealed to the public to refrain from any acts of violence during the street protests.
He said peaceful protests could be held, but people should not get violent.
He claimed that during the protests there were organised groups going around and attacking houses and shops. However, the Police were yet to report such incidents.
