Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) and Indian Navy together with a group of personnel from Sri Lanka Air Force commenced a bilateral Naval exercise in seas off Colombo on Saturday, Navy said. The joint Naval exercise will continue until March 29.
Sri Lanka Naval Ship Sayurala and the shipborne Advance Light Helicopter - IN 715 of Indian Naval Ship Sharda joined the exercise at which the deck landing and communication exercises between the ship and helicopter are mainly performed.
Enhancing of operational readiness and interoperability between both Navies during coordinated search and rescue operations, anti-smuggling operations in the Indian Ocean Region as well as to strengthen cooperation between both partners are expected to be achieved during the naval exercise, the SLN said.
Further, such exercises also provide opportunities to find collective solutions to common maritime challenges in the Indian Ocean Region.
