Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members conveyed their woes to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today (26).
The SLFP delegation led by former President Maithripala Sirisena met with the President during a near three-hour-long discussion at the Presidential Secretariat.
After the discussion, SLFP members told the media they conveyed concerns about various issues including ill-treatment of their local council and trade union members.
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, however said they did not take up any issue about increasing the portfolios in the cabinet for SLFP members and that the meeting was a success.
State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara said that there was agreement reached on working out a mechanism to resolve the issues.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that concerns of their members were brought up with the President. He said they had no plans to break away from the government. “We who formed the government and there is no issue of withdrawing from the government”, he added.
The meeting was based on a written request made to the President by the party.
Prior to the meeting, the representatives of SLFP joined a meeting held with the party chairman former President Maithripala Sirisena at his official residence in Mahagamasekera Mawatha.
