Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has written to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa requesting presidential pardon for Ranjan Ramanayake.
Mr. Premadasa in the letter stated that political parties, religious leaders, artists, lawyers and members of the civil society have asked him to write to the President seeking a presidential pardon for Mr. Ramanayake who has been imprisoned since January 12 this year.
“Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanyake has been in prison for 232 days. Actor-politician Ramanayake is a popular actor in the local film industry and known to be an honest personality raising his voice against injustice. He is not a corrupt person and does not earn through illegal means,” the Opposition Leader mentioned in his letter.
Mr. Ramanayake is presently serving a four-year imprisonment for the offense of contempt of court.
