The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), in a fresh bid to strengthen its party at village level has decided to make use of its newly elected local council members.
Accordingly, the SJB leadership will conduct district level meetings giving guidelines to the 1,700 local council members elected from its party, the Chief Government Whip Gayantha Karunathilake told Timesonline.
A series of district level meetings led by SJB leader Sajith Premadasa will be held and other senior members too will attend these meetings, he said.
Mr Karunathilake explained that the meetings in the Monaragala and Hambantota districts have already been held.
He added that the party has devised plans to maintain a good ground level support from the council members so they could carry out their tasks as a strong opposition at council level.
A short while later, the official car of the Commander of the Navy, bearing plate NAHA 5006, departed from Navy House, Longdon Place, Colombo 7.
