President Ranil Wickremesinghe has proposed to set up a Select Committee to resolve a deadlock in the Constitutional Council.
President Wickremesinghe made this proposal in parliament when the issue of the failure to recognize Dharmalingam Sithadthan’s name to Constitutional Council as a minority party member was taken up.
President Wickremesinghe claimed that the issue has risen as the opposition has recognized prof G.L Peiris as a party leader enabling him to occupy a front row seat in the parliament.
However opposition leader Sajith Premadasa denied the claim. He said that it was the speaker who recognized the party leaders.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe responding to it said that he would accordingly inform the Prime Minister to tell the speaker that the both sides have agreed that Prof Peiris and his group can’t be seated in the front row.
