Import and production of seven, single-use plastic and polythene items are to be banned from June 6 onwards
A proposal presented by the Minister of Environment to the Cabinet to ban production, importing, sale and use of seven single-use plastic and polythene items was accepted by the cabinet, Minister Bandula Gunawardena told the weekly cabinet news briefing.
Accordingly, single-use plastic straws, yogurt spoons, plates, cups (except for yogurt cups), spoons, forks, knives and plastic garlands and plastic string hopper baskets will be prohibited.
