The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe lightning advisory for 18 districts, in effect until 11:30 p.m. tonight.
Thunderstorms with intense lightning are expected in parts of the Uva, Eastern, North-Central, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Northern provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district.
Temporary localized strong winds may also accompany these thundershowers.
The public is therefore urged to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of lightning-related incidents.
