The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested six persons suspected of illegal immigration to a foreign country via sea waters.
This arrest was made during a search operation by the Sri Lankan Navy conducted off Erukkulampiddi, Mannar yesterday.
The navy troops often conduct search operations in the coastal areas surrounding the island, as illegal immigration creates serious consequences for the safety and security of the states involved.
The dinghy which was arrested by SLNS Gajaba in the North Central Naval Command was carrying 06 individuals and among them were two males (including the boat skipper), one female and three children. They have been handed over to the Mannar Police for further legal proceedings.
The suspects are identified as residents of Vavuniya and Mannar regions.
