Several shops were damaged in a major fire that broke out in a shop on the third floor of a building at First Cross Street in Pettah, Colombo, today evening.
The Colombo Fire Brigade deployed 15 fire trucks and more than 50 firefighters to the scene, supported by one bowser each from the Kotte and Dehiwala–Mount Lavinia fire brigades.
The Sri Lanka Air Force assisted with a Bell 212 helicopter, a fire engine and a bowser, while the Sri Lanka Navy too deployed a fire engine and a bowser. The Harbour firefighting unit also joined the operation.
