The Government will review the COVID-19 third wave situation after the next two weeks and will impose further restrictions if the public continues to ignore COVID-19 guidelines, State Minister of COVID Disease Control Dr Sudarshini Fernandopulle.
The State Ministry of COVID Disease Control imposed new health guidelines until May 31 yesterday. Dr Fernandopulle said that though the guidelines were issued for the next month, her ministry will review the situation after two weeks and take decisions accordingly. Accordingly, further restrictions may be imposed if the situation worsens, she warned.
The State Minister also said the Government did not want to keep state universities closed for much longer and were exploring the possibility of reopening them safely soon under specially designed health guidelines for universities.
