A Myanmar country boat with over 100 Rohingya refugees on board including children and women reached Mullivaikaal shore, Mullaithivu this morning after the vessel experienced distress due to bad weather.
Local fishermen and fisherfolk communities are assisting the refugees with supplies. Mullaithivu Fishermen Federation came forward to provide dry ration packages for the refugees.
Navy and police personnel are engaged in rescuing the refugees after providing medical assistance. The boat is still at mid sea. According to Naval authorities, Both Defense and Public Security Ministries have been informed about the situation and await for further instructions. (Pix:N. Lohathayalan)
