The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory warning of a spell of evening thundershowers and fairly strong winds across several parts of the country over the coming days.
The advisory, released at 5:30 a.m. today, urges the public to exercise caution and take necessary safety measures in light of the changing atmospheric conditions.
According to the forecast, thundershowers are likely to develop in the Northern, North-Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces, particularly in the afternoons. Showers or thundershowers are expected in multiple locations within these provinces after 1:00 p.m., with rainfall in some areas exceeding 50 mm, the Met Department said.
The Central province is also expected to experience similar weather, while Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts, may see occasional light showers during this period.
In addition to the expected rainfall, fairly strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph are forecast, especially in the Southern province.
The Meteorology Department has emphasized the importance of taking preventive steps to minimize damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning, both of which are common during thundershower activity.
