Suspects in journalist Nimalarajan’s murder case released

Attorney General's Department ordered to release the suspects in the murder case of BBC journalist Mylvaganam Nimalarajan who was killed 21 years back at his house in Jaffna.

Nimalarajan worked for the BBC’s Sandeshaya (Sinhala) and  Tamilosai (Tamil) as the  Jaffna correspondent.

He was killed on October 19, 2000 at his  house in during the curfew hours while he was writing news to his media institution.

He was shot through the window and  a hand grenade was thrown at him.

The case was pending at the  Jaffna Magistrate Courts for the past fifteen years.  

Attorney General's Department instructed the courts not to continue the case against the suspects.

Accordingly the court ordered to release the suspects.

Two of the six suspects in the cases are currently overseas.
