Major trade unions in the education sector were divided over a strike called by teachers today over a payment of arrears.
As a result, the strike action was only of partial success.
The Ceylon Teachers Union led by Joseph Stalin was among those opposed to the strike.
He said that the strike had been called at a time when part of the arrears had been paid and a solution was being reached on the issue.
However, in some of the outstations parents refrained from sending their children to school.
