A Technical Officer attached to the Welisara Sub Office of the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha was arrested on charge of accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000 by the officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
The suspect is to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
CIABOC officials said, this arrest was made based on a complaint received from a resident in the Ragama area.
The complainant had been asked to pay Rs 50,000 as a bribe for overlooking shortcomings in a building plan submitted for approval and to facilitate the approval process despite those deficiencies.
It was carried out acting upon a complaint received by the Commission on 07 January 2026.
The government today granted permission for an Iranian warship with 208 on board to enter the country.
