A 10 day elephant drive to keep away the animals off the villages in the Matale district has been launched under the coordination of the District Secretariat.
The operation is taking place in the Naula, Pallepola and Yatawatta areas.
The operation is effective from 2.00 p.m to midnight.
Accordingly, the public have been warned to avoid being in the open areas during the operations.
The District Secretary Prasanna Madanayaka is coordinating operation following a decision made at the District Coordinating Committee.
The meeting was attended by the Civil Defence Force, Army, Air Force etc.
