Three school students have been arrested by police over the death of a 16-year-old student in Pelmadulla who had drowned.
The victim's body was found yesterday (28) floating in the Kirindiela Anicut after the Pelmadulla Police received a tip-off.
The victim was a Grade 10 student at a school in Pelmadulla. He had left home on Sunday telling his family that he was going to the Lellupitiya area. His family had lodged a complaint with the Ratnapura Police reporting him missing after he failed to return home that day.
Investigations launched after the discovery of the body led police to uncover that the deceased had been bathing at the anicut with several other students on Sunday when he had drowned and gone missing. After his disappearance, the other students who were with him had left the place without informing anyone of what happened.
Police have now arrested the three students who had been bathing with the victim and had failed to report what happened.
The body is being kept at the Kahawatta Hospital and Pelmadulla Police are conducting further investigations.
