"Ali Roshan" sentenced to 15 years
Samarappulige Niraj Roshan known as "Ali Roshan" was sentenced to 15 years by the Colombo High Court today for the possession of an elephant without a valid permit. A fine of 2.06 million rupees was imposed, and with an order to confiscate the elephant.
Landslide warning for five districts
A Landslide warning was issued by the National Building Research Organisation in Colombo, Kalutara, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura as heavy rainfall continues in parts of the island.
Shasheendra Rajapaksa further remanded
Former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa was further remanded till September 22 by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court for allegations of offenses under the Public Property Act.
Island-wide narcotic operation lands 736 in custody
Police arrested 736 suspects yesterday in an island-wide operation against crime and narcotics. Fifty individuals were arrested for drunk driving, 18 for criminal activities. Additionally, 205 open warrants and 307 date warrants, and 20 reckless driving. A total of 28,705 persons were inspected.
