Akkaraipattu Police have arrested two suspects in Oluvil for possession of 124 counterfeit Rs 5000 notes.
The raid was conducted based on information given by Army Intelligence, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
A car used by the suspects was also taken into custody along with 20 partially printed Rs 5000 counterfeit notes, a printer, ink and other tools used to print counterfeit notes, DIG Rohana further said.
Akkaraipattu Police are investigating.
The Police Spokesman warned that there is a tendency of counterfeit notes being printed by racketeers during holiday seasons such as Christmas and New Year. Most such counterfeit notes tend to be Rs 5000 and Rs 1000 ones he said. The DIG urged the public to be vigilant for such counterfeit notes in circulation during the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year period.
