Five persons including two student union leaders have been arrested for causing critical injuries to the Officer in Charge of the Maharagama Police during a protest, Police said.
Police Spokesman Senior Deputy Director General of Police (SDIG) Ajith Rohana said the convener of the Inter University Students Federation Wasantha Mudalige and leader of the Sri Jayawardenapura University’s Student Union Amila Sandeepa were arrested by Thalangama police over the incident.
The other three are drivers who have carried persons from Medirigiriya, Peradeniya and Tissamaharama to the protest venue violating provincial travel restrictions. The suspects will be produced before Kaduwela Magistrate today.
