Two students miraculously escaped an attack by an elephant in the Halmillewa area of Kottukachchiya, in Anamaduwa.
The two students riding a motorcycle had witnessed an elephant coming charging towards them and left the bike and run into a house and saved their lives on Tuesday.
The enraged elephant attacked their Scooty type motorcycle worth more than five hundred thousand rupees and completely destroyed it.
The two students of Anamaduwa Madhya Maha Vidyalaya, who are residents of Kottukachchiya Halmillewa area, encountered this mishap while they were going to Kottukachchi to pick up their mother who is a teacher.
The particular elephant has been roaming in many nearby areas in the last few days, creating fear among the people and chasing the motorcyclists and attacking them on several occasions.
After informing the Puttalam Wildlife Control Unit about the incident, the wildlife officers were working to chase away the elephant from the area where it escaped.
