All the nine university students including the Inter University student Federation (IUSF) convener Madushan Chandarajith who were arrested yesterday while they were carrying out a protest had been bailed without conditions today, police said.
The protest which was carried out by the Allied Health Science Graduates’ Union was held in in front of the Health Ministry. The protest was held against the recruitment process for state services, particularly the introduction of examinations instead of merit-based recruitment system.
The Convener told times online that they were released on bail without any conditions.
Mr Chandrajith said that they expected a change done by the new government which advocated for a change when they came to power, yet they too as same as the previous governments use oppression as a response when students protest.
He claimed that they demanded to have a discussion with the Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya. However they were unable to meet the prime minster due to her busy schedule.
“We condemn the oppression, and would continue our struggle until our demands are met”, he said.
The case is scheduled to be taken up on July 16
