E. Kushan, the former third secretary of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Oman, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was remanded in custody till December 13 after being produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court a short while ago.
He had been arrested earlier today on arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake, Police said.
An open warrant had been issued on him for his alleged involvement in human a trafficking racket where Sri Lankan women taken for foreign employment on visit visas and subsequently used in prostitution rackets.
He was taken for questioning by the Human Trafficking, Smuggling Investigation and Maritime Unit of the CID and will be produced in courts thereafter, Police said.
