Police today said that they have detected vehicles with identical registration and unregistered vehicle in two separate incidents.
According to Wennappuwa police two cars with identical numbers had been taken into custody yesterday.
They said that the vehicles were detected when they initiated investigations based on a complaint that the registration book and vehicle transfer applications of a car belonging to a person in Waikala area were stolen and replaced with a fake registration book.
Following police investigations, they have found a car with the same registration number of the complainant’s vehicle in possession of a resident in the Vaikkala area Wennappuwa.
Accordingly police had taken cutody over both vehicles and handed over to Halawata Division Special Crime Investigation Unit for further investigation.
Meanwhile in a separate incident two residents of Atalugamawatta area, in Dehiovita were arrested over an unregistered jeep, Avissawella Police said.
According to information received that a jeep without number plates was hidden in a person's house in Atalugama Waththa area in Dehiovita. Therefore a team of officers attached to the Nuriya police station raided the house and found a jeep without number plates fixed and arrested two suspects. There were two false number plates were found inside the vehicle.
The arrested suspects were aged 34 and 40, are identified as residents of Dehiowita and Avissawella areas.
The vehicle along with the suspects had been handed over to Avissawella police station for further investigations.
The Avissawella police said that suspects have not yet submitted valid licenses and documents related to the jeep.
