One lane on the lower Kadugannawa section of the Colombo-Kandy main road will be opened from noon today (17), the Road Development Authority (RDA) announced.
However, motorists are requested to use alternate routes to avoid congestion.
Heavy rains during the past two weeks resulted in the National Building Research Organisation declaring the area unsafe and prone to landslides. The Kegalle District Secretary announced that the road between Hingula and Kandy, in lower Kadugannawa, was closed.
Fruit stalls and other temporary structures along the main Kandy-Colombo road at lower Kadugannawa were also demolished with the assistance of the Army last week.
