Minister of Justice Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe is due to announce his candidacy for the Presidential elections today.
The announcement was made by the Justice Minister today in Colombo during a special press conference.
Minister Rajapakshe told the media that initiatives will be implemented under his direction to address problems in a number of areas, with an emphasis on development.
He said that he was certain the National Election Commission will conduct the next elections in an impartial and constitutional manner.
The Minister claimed that ninety percent of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members backed his candidacy.
