A woman recently released from custody after being held over a narcotics offence was shot dead, while she was traveling in the Marawila area, yesterday night.
The 30 year old woman who was shot dead was identified as one who was involved in a heroin racket, along with her family. The victim was identified as Chaturani alias “Sandamali” .
She was the eldest daughter of a woman in custody for a narcotics offence .
The drceased woman was also a mother of two children.
According to Marawila Police, two unidentified men had shot the woman while she was traveling back to her home in a three wheeler along with her 10 year old son.
The woman had been killed on the spot while the 10 year old boy remained seriously injured. The police added that the 10 year old boy is being treated at Marawila hospital.
The police further explained that the deceased woman’s mother, Husband and her two sisters were all involved in drug business and had been having a bad reputation in the area, as they distributed drugs to many areas.
The police said that pistol had been used for the shooting. Following the shooting the two unidentified men had fled the area in a motor bike.
The police had deployed several police teams to investigate the incident from several different approaches. The police suspect that the incident had occurred as a result of an issue with a rival drug gang involved in drug business.
