A 63-year-old woman was killed by a wild elephant at Thalawa, Ihalawewa area in Anuradhapura, police said .
The deceased was identified as Vinitha Hemamala Samarawickrama, a resident of Thalawa Ihalawewa area.
The woman who was making a living by looking after a baby in a nearby house, was attacked by the elephant yesterday morning while she was on her way to the house where she was employed.
The residents said that elephant herds are residing in Moragoda teek reserve, and the elephants frequently roam into villages despite electric fences and the trenches are cut to keep the elephants in the reserve.
