The Director General of the National Zoological Gardens Ishini Wickremesinghe has resigned from her post, Wildlife Minister Wimalaweera Dissanayake announced.
A source from the Zoological Garden confirmed that the Director General had submitted her resignation letter and is currently having a meeting with the staff.
The source said that the Director General resigned at a time where several elephants which were under the protection of the Zoo were ordered to be returned to the previous owners via a court order.
