A local Swiss Embassy employee who was abducted in Colombo this week is unable to testify due to a “deteriorating health condition”, the Switzerland Embassy said today (Nov 29).
“The employee was detained against their will in the street, forced to get into a car, seriously threatened at length by unidentified men and forced to disclose embassy-related information,” the Embassy said in a statement.
It noted that a formal complaint had been lodged immediately after the incident and that the Embassy is cooperating to conduct an inquiry over the case while considering the victim’s health condition.
Reports claim that the abduction was linked to CID Chief Inspector Nishantha Silva's departure to Switzerland. During the last government, he was involved in investigating high profile crimes.
The Swiss Embassy refuted reports that the Swiss government had rejected a request to extradite Silva and his family. "No such request has been submitted," the statement said.
