The Attorney General (AG) has called for a report from Acting Police Chief C D Wickremaratne on the progress made to arrest two suspects in the Avant Garde floating armoury case.
Issuing a statement, the AG's Department said that this instruction had been issued after the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) had sought a clarification from AG Dappula De Livera on the grounds of arresting the two suspects.
The suspects who had been listed out were National Police Commission Secretary Saman Dissanayake and Former Senior Additional Defence Secretary Damayanthi Jayaratne.
In response, AG de Livera had pointed out that there was no legal obstruction to arrest Dissanayake since his fundamental rights petition against his imminent arrest had been rejected by the Supreme Court.
The AG had also listed out reasons stating as to why Damayanthi Jayaratne should be arrested over the case, a spokesman for the AG's Department told Times Online.
