Political activist Dan Priyasad has been shot and injured in Salamulla, Kolonnawa, Police said.
He has been admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo.
He was shot while at the Laksanda Sevana, apartment complex.
Priyasad an activisit of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is also a candidate for the local elections.
Police spokesman SSP Buddhika Manatunga initially reported that Priyasad had succumbed to his injuries, but later corrected his statement saying he was in a serious condition in the ICU of the National Hospital, Colombo.
He was at a party organised at the housing complex when a gunman shot him while inside a house.
He had received four gun shot injuries.
SSP Manatunga said that the gunman had arrived on a motorcycle with an accomplice and had fled the scene.
A second person was also injured in the shooting.
Priyasad was contesting from the SLPP for the local council elections for the Kolonnawa Urban Council.
Former Minister and leader of the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) Douglas Devenanada was arrested by the Criminal investigation Department (CID) today.
