The Public Administration Ministry has issued the amended circular concerning the dress code of state sector employees.
According to the amended circular female employees will be permitted to clad themselves in a saree, osari, or any other appropriate or modest attire.
This provision in the circular repeals the previous circular's regulation which stated that the saree/osari would be made compulsory for females.
Meanwhile, the amended circular also allows an employee to wear an additional clothing material, provided that it exposes the "full face (except for the ears)."
The circular, dated yesterday (Jun 26) and signed by Public Administration Secretary J.J. Rathnasiri has been sent to ministerial secretaries, provincial chief secretaries, and heads of state departments.
