Military troops, adding strength to the national dengue eradication programme took another step and launched a week long Dengue Prevention Programme on Saturday, Defence Ministry said. This programme is carried out in addition to ongoing projects, got off the ground at the MOH office near the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, states Army media sources.
The programme was launched with 25 separate teams made of 200 Army personnel 25 policemen and 25 Public Health Inspectors with the intention of identifying and eradicating the deadly epidemic primarily in worst-affected and densely populated Mattakkuliya area.
The project was launched under the directive of the Army Commander by the Security Forces Headquarters-West. The week long programme will go on till Saturday (08th July). The inauguration of the programme took place on Saturday morning with the presence of Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Major General Laksiri Waduge, senior police officers, medical pfficer of health, health ministry and Colombo municipal council officials.
