Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe refuted allegations leveled by State Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage that he (Wickremesinghe) had been involved in a plot to assassinate him.
Making a special statement in Parliament in response to accusations leveled by the State Minister earlier in the day that then PM Wickremesinghe and UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake had plotted to kill him, Mr Wickremesinghe insisted he is "not someone who gets involved in conspiracies."
He noted that the phone conversations that are currently circulating on social media seem to have come from CDs that were seized by police from UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake's official residence in Madiwela."But these recordings are now being circulated on social media and mainstream media as if they are public property," he stated.
He urged the Speaker to ask police to give copies of the CDs to Parliament to see if any MP had been involved in acts of wrongdoing. "If anyone has violated any law, then let this House know," he requested.
