Cases have been registered against 14 persons in connection with an attack on inmates of a refugee camp for Sri Lankan Tamils at Perumalpuram near Kanyakumari on Monday night, The Hindu reported. An unidentified gang is said to have barged into the residence of Udayakumar and attacked the inmates, including his wife U. Jeeva Ranjani and brother Ravichandran, with iron rods. They were admitted to the Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital in Asaripallam. On the basis of a complaint lodged by Jeeva Ranjani, the police took into custody four persons for inquiry and registered cases against 14 others.
