A Fundamental Rights application has been filed by former Minister Basil Rajapaksa seeking his immediate release from custody. The former minister in his application filed by Attorney at lawyer Sanath Wijewardena has sought that no further steps should be taken in his case filed based on investigations carried out by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID). Mr Rajapaksa, earlier in the day further remanded until May 27 by the Kaduwela Magistrate.

A Sri Lankan man was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi airport for attempting to smuggle wildlife out of the country after three ball pythons were found hidden in his underwear, the Bangkok post reported.
