The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) issuing a statement on the current political crisis said Parliament should be convened in order to strengthen democracy.
The BASL statement notes that it is concerned with regard to the appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister.
The release also requests all parties to avoid engaging in acts of violence and to resolve the matter in a peaceful manner.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
