The Colombo Chief Magistrate's court today (Sept 20) ordered that the Avant Garde illegal floating armoury case filed by the Bribery Commission would be heard on September 23.
The Appeal Court, last week, ordered the Magistrate's Court to acquit all accused including former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa over the case.
The Bribery Commission had charged eight suspects for permitting Avant Garde Maritime Services to operate a floating armoury resulting in losses worth Rs 11.4 billion to the government.
Lawyers appearing for Mr. Rajapaksa informed court today (Sept 20) that the Appeal Court had issued an order to acquit their client. However, Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne announced that the order has not been officially received by court.
The Chief Magistrate then directed the court registrar to obtain a copy of the Appeal Court's order and to produce it during the next hearing.
